It's often been said

"Sure wish I could hit my driver like my irons!"

Have you said that to yourself or golfing buddies? Read this article and you'll find some simple tips to improve you're tee shot. The first thing you need to look at is the shaft in your driver.

The most important feature of any club that will have an effect on performance is the shaft. If you have a shaft in your driver that's not right for you, then you'll have problems hitting your driver, or any of your other clubs that are not shafted properly.

If your tee shots are unpredictable with your driver ask this question...

"Are the shafts in your irons the same as in your driver?"

Now if the answer is...

"Yes, all my shafts are regular flex. I have steel shafts in my irons and graphite in my woods"

Here's what most golfers don't understand, just because a shaft is labelled regular flex, it does NOT mean it's the same flex as another brand of shaft that's labelled regular. In the golf industry there are no standards as far as flex is concerned. Don't take for granted that having the same shaft flex from two different manufactures means you basically have the same shaft.

If you hit your irons well, but not the driver, match the shaft that's in your irons and have it put in your driver. Most of the time just changing the shaft solves the driving problem.

What if this doesn't work? Try these tips to help you to hit the ball straighter and longer off the tee.

1. Loosen up by doing some stretches. The golf swing is not the easiest thing on the body and you'll only do damage by trying to swing a driver hard without warming up.

2. Do you slice? Tee the ball higher as this helps to encourage a draw. On the other hand if your trouble shot with a driver is a hook tee the ball lower.

3. When you tee it up to hit your driver take into account the type of shot you've hit with the driver. Let's say you hit a left to right shot most of the time, then tee the ball up on the right side of the tee box, aim left and play your shot. Now if your shot is right to left then naturally you set up on the opposite side of the tee to allow for that shape.

Please understand number 3 does not apply to every hole you play. Smart golf and playing within yourself is of utmost importance.

You've got to be smart when you tee it up. A general rule that might help you to remember is...always tee up your ball as the same side as the trouble and aim away from it.
